Small Faith Communities
Like many parishes, Bellarmine Chapel fosters the formation of Small Faith Communities. These communities meet regularly at parishioners’ homes or on campus to share what is happening in members’ lives, to deepen a sense of social responsibility, and to pray together, sometimes around the Sunday readings, other times using the Spiritual Exercises, and often simply sharing their lived experience.
The frequency, focus and format of each Small Faith Community depends on the needs and desires of its members. One community may engage in faith-sharing, another may study scripture together, and still another might discuss a movie that everyone has seen. Some have read together recent documents of Pope Francis. The Small Faith Community does not exist to solve problems but to help its members live as authentic disciples in our world today. These faith communities serve as constant reminders that the church is not the building but the living community of disciples.
Currently we have around 20 active Small Faith Communities--but new ones are continually being formed. Usually around the beginning of the academic year, the parish holds a meeting for all existing communities, and invites anyone who would be interested in joining or forming one.
