Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion
Meet Our Catechumens and Candidates!
Carmen Nemore’s parents were both Methodist, and her grandparents were pastors, but she was not raised in their faith growing up. She began to be drawn to the Catholic faith through her education from the 4th grade at Our Lady of the Rosary and through high school at Roger Bacon. She says she has always felt “unofficially” Catholic. Her relationship with Luke, her fiancee, has deepened her desire for Christ, and her appreciation for the “structure” of the Catholic faith. They are preparing for their wedding in August and their life together. Carmen is an educator for the many groups of children who visit the Cincinnati Zoo. Her sponsor is her future sister-in-law, Brenna Schutzman.

Tom Mangione’s extended family on his father’s side are Catholic and his mother grew up in the Lutheran Church. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church. Tom was raised in a “megachurch” in Louisville, then attended an evangelical College in Kentucky where he was drawn into prayer and personal discipleship with Jesus. Recently, he has been intentional about seeking a Church living the Gospel in solidarity with the poor, inspired by the Jesuits. He and his fiancee Megan Slack found Bellarmine as a place where he can internalize his faith and grow in deeper discipleship. He is currently a manager at Starbucks and in the Masters in Education program at XU for Secondary Ed in Math. He and Megan will be married in October. Tom’s sponsor is Nick Fiorelli.

Alison was raised in the Lutheran Church where she was very involved in Sunday School, youth ministry, choir, VBS and other ministries at her church in California. She has been drawn to Catholic faith and practice for the past several years, and in search of a “home Church,” she began attending Mass at the Chapel on campus. She has been very engaged in our weekly RCIA sessions, eager to learn and incorporate Catholic faith, ritual and practice into her life. Alison is a Xavier senior majoring in Exercise Science, Psychology and Applied Health Science minor. Her sponsor is XU student and friend Emily Langbo.
