Youth Ministry
Bellarmine Chapel has a vibrant history of welcoming and involving our teenage parishioners. By virtue of their Baptism, our teens are full-fledged members of the Catholic faith community. The parish flourishes when our young people fully participate, side by side with adult and children members. Bellarmine offers comprehensive youth ministry as advocated by the U.S. Catholic Bishops in their foundational pastoral letter: Renewing the Vision.
Countless teens have grown up in Bellarmine Parish, participated in youth ministry, and then continue to engage as members of the faith community in their own local and global milieus. Participants will attest that they have met lifelong friends through our youth ministry programs.
We value the gifts our youth bring to the community: their "special talents….youthfulness, energy, vitality, hopefulness and vision." (A Message to Youth: Pathway to Hope, USCC, 1995). We want our teens to find a sense of belonging and acceptance here. We listen to them and offer care for the whole person, addressing young people's spiritual needs within the context of the rest of their lives. "Ministry with adolescents promotes the growth of healthy, competent, caring and faith-filled young people." (Renewing The Vision - USCCB’s document on Youth).
Our youth ministry provides concrete ways for teens to grow as human persons, test and stretch their understanding of ‘who they are,’ while deepening their faith. We encourage and nurture their participation in the larger life of the parish. A major focus of the program is the facilitation of ongoing groups for both junior high ("byg") and senior high ("BYG") youth (and their friends). Youth meetings involve a shared meal, socializing, discussion and reflection on important issues in teens' lives, faith formation and prayer. We also have events such as: multi-generational service projects, parties, field trips, seasonal celebrations, and retreats.
There are 2 forms required for registration each year a youth participates in the program. All youth must have these forms on file:
- YM Medical Release Form
- YM Power of Attorney
