Celebrate Lent with Bellarmine Chapel
The Church calls us to prayer, fasting and almsgiving during the 40 days of Lent, so we can return to God with our whole heart and live in the ways God desires for us. These three practices of active discipleship increase our desire to deepen our prayer, fast in solidarity with others and do works of peace and justice. Bellarmine Chapel is providing opportunities and events to engage with intentionality during this season of Lent. Many of the options are intended for small groups using Zoom. During these months of prolonged distance, please consider being in a group during Lent, so you can enjoy weekly contact and engagement with others in our Bellarmine family.
We Need Your Photos This Lent!
As we continue to journey together through Lent, we are making plans for the upcoming liturgies during Holy Week and Easter. Because of COVID, once again, the number of people we can safely fit in the chapel will be limited. That means a large portion of our community will be joining us via livestream. We are preparing several moments during the liturgies where we can make sure everyone can get involved. We need your help!
On Holy Thursday, during the foot washing, we will be displaying photos and videos from our community. If you have photos or short video clips of you and your family serving members of the parish and the wider community, we invite you to send those in. We are working on a way to share those images on the livestream and underscore the significance of this moment in the Holy Thursday liturgy that reminds us how Jesus gave himself in service to the very end, and how Christ’s charity embraces all people.
Additionally, on Good Friday, during the veneration of the cross, we will also display images from members of the community. If you have a crucifix or cross in your home, we invite you to send us a photo so that we can share those images.
In order to give our teams time to prepare the music and videos, we are asking that everything be submitted by Palm Sunday, March 28. If you have trouble submitting your images with the forms linked above, please contact Melissa Batka.

Growing Spiritually During Lent
Give some thought to what your practice will be this year-- then choose one. Anticipate that something wonderful is about to happen. Just imagine that this Lent is going to be different from every other Lent we’ve experienced. Imagine that there will be many graces offered us this year. Let's even imagine that God is going to transform our lives with greater freedom, greater joy and a deeper desire for love and service.
The Church gives us this season each year as a time of conversion, turning from and turning toward. As we receive ashes on Ash Wednesday we hear, “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.” What are the behaviors, attitudes, and attachments I need to turn away from? How will my Lenten practices move me away from them? How will I let a small group of my community support me in the ways I want to move toward?
The essential intention of our Lenten practice is to prepare each of us to renew our baptismal promises at Easter, to re-commit ourselves to joyfully and courageously living the Gospel. How will the prayer, fasting and action practices I choose better prepare me to celebrate a joyful Easter and to live out my baptismal call to live as a disciple of Jesus?
We have prepared a full “menu” of choices-- so don’t fast from these! We invite you to join us as we grow spiritually during this season of Lent.
