Ignatian Advocacy Team
“Today, in view of the common good, there is urgent need for politics and economics to enter into a frank dialogue in the service of life.”
- Pope Francis, Laudato Si’ 189
Recognizing the need to address unjust structures that exist in our society today, the Ignatian Advocacy Team seeks to advocate for and with our most marginalized brothers and sisters. We support relationships with community organizations, non-profits, and government bodies at the local, state, and national levels.

More by Deeds Than by Words
In Spiritual Exercises No. 230, St. Ignatius of Loyola writes, "Love ought to manifest itself more by deeds than by words." As a part of the Jesuit family, the Ignatian Advocacy team recognizes that practicing our faith and working to build a more just society are inseparable. Our faith compels us to recognize the unjust systems in our communities and share with policy makers a vision of social justice that cares for the poor and oppressed.
To learn more about the significance of advocacy as an essential part of faith and justice work, check out this video from Ignatian Solidarity Network.
Bellarmine's History of Advocacy
The Ignatian Advocacy Team supports advocacy efforts for each of our Social Mission teams, including Dismantling Racism, Immigration, Healthy Earth, Building a Bridge, and People of All Abilities. We also support policy efforts to abolish the death penalty.
We create a monthly collection of Advocacy Action Items that is published in the Social Mission Newsletter.

Advocacy Webinars
“The complexity of the problems we face and the richness of the opportunities offered demand that we engage in building bridges between rich and poor and establishing advocacy links of mutual support between those who hold political power and those who find it difficult to voice their interests.” - 35th General Congregation of the Jesuits
The Ignatian Advocacy team seeks to make advocacy action accessible to all, including those with limited experience. Below are a series of webinars on the basics of advocacy and writing letters to the editor put together by the Bellarmine team.
