THANK YOU!

I wanted to take just a moment to share with the community my profound gratitude for the time I've spent here the Director of Social Mission. It has been four years filled with many different kinds of transitions and, as a community, you have prayed me and my family through these times. We have been blessed to have two children baptized and my husband confirmed. Professionally, this time has been filled with opportunities to further engage our communal commitment to justice and peace. Those programs have ranged from a Blue Christmas Service for people struggling over the holidays to an alternative gift fair for holiday giving, a voter education series, developing a vibrant St. Vincent de Paul conference as well as the crucial work of The AMOS Project so ably supported by our community. I have tried to reach out and get to know as many of you as I could, find out what your passions are and how you dream of living those out. I look forward to continuing to get to know more of you as a parishioner.

I'm looking forward to being just another parishioner in the pews with all of you. Thank you for your commitment to justice and for your love and support over these last years. We have been fed and sustained by them.

Blessings,

Stephanie

9 AND 11 LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

New schedules will be coming out soon for the 9:00 and 11:00 liturgical ministries. We are not having new sign-ups this spring, but if you want to be taken off the list, which will run through November, please contact Sally Coomes for 9:00 (s.coomes@insightbb.com) or Karen Brandstetter for 11:00 (745-3398 or brandstetter@xavier.edu). The current 7:00 schedule will not change. In the fall, we will have new sign-ups for all three liturgies. New ministers, and those who wish to continue, will be able to sign up at that time.

THIRD SUNDAY SPECIAL COLLECTION

The TriHealth Parish Nurse Ministry is the beneficiary of the May 18 Sunday collection. Several of our current parishioners are parish nurses in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Visiting clients from the elderly to infants and everyone in between, the twelve Parish Nurses serve in nine underserved neighborhoods, free of charge. The Parish Nurses often meet situations in which the clients have little or no resources. Your donation on May 18 will go to the special needs fund and help the Parish Nurses provide things like baby beds, window fans, bus tokens, and emergency food. The Social Mission Core Team and the TriHealth Parish Nurses appreciate your generosity in helping to improve the lives of people in need.

SUMMER RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Registration forms and additional information are available in the vestibule today for our Summer Religion Program for children in grades 1-6. It will be held from July 28-August 8 at St. Clement Parish in St. Bernard. The program last year was very successful and we look forward to having your children participate this year.

Please be assured that the summer program will be supplemented by periodic gatherings of families that will reinforce throughout the year what is learned in the summer. The entire parish will be encouraged to attend these meetings as we continue our process of developing a program of intergenerational catechesis.

Priority registration for the participating parishes will end on May 19. After that date and if there are openings in the classrooms, families from other parishes will be able to register for the summer program. We will limit the number of students in each class to 20 and expect that the space will fill up quickly, so we encourage you to register early.

IGive.com

Just a reminder that as you shop the internet throughout the year, if you register with www.igive.com, and list Bellarmine Chapel as your charity, a percentage of your purchases will be donated to our outreach fund.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

...Is Just Around the Corner!

Vacation Bible School will be held June 16 - June 20, 2008 from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm at St. Mary Church in Hyde Park. The theme this year is Miracles Happen.

As you know, volunteers are the heart of VBS!! Can you help us in 2008? We need volunteer teachers, assistants, artists, musicians, actors, helpers, and caregivers. You will receive priority registration PLUS a discount on the registration fee for children of FULL WEEK volunteers!

We hope you will consider volunteering in one of the on-site, full-week positions for VBS. These positions, which include leadership and assistant roles in our preschool and elementary classes as well as roles in crafts, music, drama, snack, and childcare, are vital to making VBS a success. The lesson plans and activities are all planned and we need your help to make "miracles happen." Recognizing this commitment, we are providing both priority registration and a discount on the registration fee for full-week volunteers with children/grandchildren attending VBS. Part-week, on-site volunteers are also of great value in many areas, and children/grandchildren of these volunteers will receive priority registration.

As always, we look forward to working with our teen volunteers, too. There are many areas in which you can step up and make a difference for VBS.

A complete description of all volunteer positions is available online at www.knox.org/vbs/, or you may contact Jim Crosby at 745-3317 or crosbyj@xavier.edu

OUTREACH WITH ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

Today as we celebrate the feast of the Ascension, we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on earth continues through his disciples and through us. Our SVDP conference works to distribute this care, compassion and material help to the poor in the surrounding neighborhoods of Evanston, Avondale, Norwood and Walnut Hills. This past March, parish volunteers visited thirty-one homes and were able to give financial assistance in the form of $625.00 in Kroger cards, $330.00 in Duke Energy bills, $920.00 in rent and $215.00 in bus tokens. Twelve SVDP store vouchers for household items, furniture and clothing were also given out as well as four new beds. Thanks to Bellarmine's support and commitment to core Gospel values, we are able to serve our neighbors in need. When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our lives and into the hearts of those we serve.
