Wednesday April 9, 7 PM and Saturday April 26, 9:30 AM, at the Chapel We've set up two times for a presentation on this topic by Sean Reynolds, Bellarmine parishioner and archdiocesan Director of Youth Ministry. You'll learn about national trends, to discover how our own questions and experience are part of the larger picture. The goal is to strengthen faith formation here, the role of the parish and of the parents. The issues are not new, but the priority and urgency in them is newly important to all of us. Let's begin to pray for good, confident guidance for our community, of all ages! AMOS BANQUET-APRIL 24 This year's banquet celebrates a phenomenal year of action and lays out the plan for another exciting year. Tickets are available in the narthex for $40/seat. See the insert for more about the guest speaker. A bio of her is available in the narthex, on the table next to the office. RANDOM QUOTE Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself than of other people, nor does it mean having a low opinion of your own gifts. It means freedom from thinking about yourself at all. ~William Temple BAPTISMS Please join us in welcoming the following children as we celebrate their baptisms this morning: Samantha Martin Collison - daughter of Ted and Julie Collison Mia Claire Palcisco - daughter of Paul and Mara Palcisco Searcy Emerson Lotz - daughter of Doug Lotz and Gentry Easley Josephine Rae Fortin - daughter of Brian and Eileen Fortin Keenan Crowe Sevindik - son of Ike and Christine Sevindik Katherine Claire McConn - daughter of Robert and Laura McConn REMEMBER IN PRAYER Please keep the family of Jim Crosby, Bellarmine’s Director of Faith Formation, in your prayers. Jim’s father died on Monday, March 17. THANK YOU ...all for making the Triduum happen so graciously this past Holy Week. I hear many words of praise, as do other staff members, and I hope you know that the work behind the scenes is shared by dozens of people: reading practice, music rehearsals, stapling programs, setting up the social, putting together the little eggs for children on Easter morning, setting and re-setting the environment of the chapel. I'm especially grateful for the grace of the Elect coming to the sacraments.! And for all of you who come to pray and sing, remember the grace of your moment, and the gift it is for our many visitors. ~Random Quote FAMILY LITURGY Several parishioners are in the process of planning a family liturgy, open to all, with full participation by people of all ages. The mass will take place in the chapel on Sunday, April 20 at 2 PM. Please join us! For more information, or to get involved, please contact Jim Crosby at 745-3317 or crosbyj@xavier.edu. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY We are building the 12th Shalom Coalition Habitat House this year. Building season starts in April. As usual, we need your financial support to make this happen. Eight churches and the employees of one local corporation join together to raise the $78,000 in monetary or "in-kind" donations to purchase the land/permits/materials/labor (minimal due to our great volunteer crew) that are necessary to raise the house. We are building a 3-bedroom, 1100+ sq ft. house. The partner family will build right along with us, paying their 500 hours of sweat equity required as a down payment. They will then pay a 20 year interest free mortgage for this house. It is truly a hand up, not a hand out. Their mortgage payments help to support the ongoing mission of Cincinnati HfH in the years to come. Also, 10% of all the money raised for this house is tithed to Kenya Habitat for Humanity. Please look for the folks in hard hats and the collection boxes at the chapel exits. Thanks to all who have helped us in the last 11 houses, and to all who will help us this year! SMALL FAITH GROUP OPPORTUNITY Lois Campbell, member of the World Executive Council for Christian Life Communities, will be at Bellarmine on May 1 to introduce another way that new or existing small faith communities can engage the Spiritual Exercises. More details to come. DEVELOP COMMON GOOD PLATFORM Participate in a dialogue that will develop the planks of a Platform for the Common Good. On April 28 from 7-8:30 PM, parishioners and people of faith from throughout the community are invited to an event where we will surface our greatest concerns, prioritize them and spend time thinking about what government and individuals can do about these issues. This input will be forwarded to NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, and compiled with other feedback from other participants from around the country to become a platform. The platform will be ratified at the Convention for the Common in Philadelphia July 11-13 and sent on to the platform committees of the Republican and Democratic parties. Please see the flyer on the table by the office for additional details. 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ASSASSINATION OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. Joseph Mulligan, S.J. will share pictures and stories of his experiences with the Michigan Peace Team at Bellarmine Chapel on Tuesday, April 1 at 7:30 PM. The Team pursues peace through active nonviolence in places of conflict (www.michiganpeaceteam.org). While his experience was primarily with Palestinians, he also had contact with Jewish friends in Israel – some of whom are in active solidarity with Palestinian efforts for justice, and all of whom are concerned about their own security. Fr. Mulligan has stated: "The only way both the Jewish and the Palestinian people will have true peace and security is through a just solution of the underlying issues of the conflict." All are welcome for a peaceful and loving discussion. Respondents have been invited to give their views. Donations will be accepted for the Michigan Peace Team.
