HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Shalom Coalition of Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity is building its 14th house this year! Bellarmine has been a member of this coalition since house number five. With seven other churches we build one home a year. That means this will be our ninth family to assist into decent independent housing. Thank you for all you have done in the past. We ask you to continue your generosity with a contribution during the collection today. Please make checks payable to Bellarmine Chapel with Habitat for Humanity in the memo line.

Remember, this is not a handout, but a hand up. The Larry Burrows Memorial House, named in honor of the co-site coordinator of the past many years, will be a one-story home at 2304 Boone St. in East Walnut Hills. The family will work 500 hours of sweat equity, and will pay a 20 year interest-free mortgage. There are many of you who help every year by donating, bringing lunches to feed the construction crew, and building. We thank you all!!

FOR ALL LITURGICAL READERS

The office is now mailing the readings for mass in .pdf format to all readers. Please be sure we have you current email address (you can send it to Liz at keuffer@xavier.edu). If you do not receive an email with the readings by 5 PM on Tuesday the week you are supposed to read, please call the chapel office ASAP at 745-3398.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

June 21-25, 2010: This is an opportunity for children from preschool age through grade 6. Our theme this year is "God’s Big Backyard" and we will learn about service to others through classroom time, music, craft activities and drama. The times are 9:30 AM – 12 Noon. We need many parents and teens to help make this program work. Priority registration for those who are willing to volunteer is open now by visiting www.knox.org and clicking on the Vacation Bible School link on the right hand side. Open registration will begin on May 6.

CATHOLIC MEN'S FELLOWSHIP

This year's Catholic Men's Conference was another success, but conferences are not our objective. Our objective is to get men "out of the pews" and engaged with other men to share their faith journeys and challenges in a confidential supportive setting.

If you've been called to go deeper in your relationships with God, your family, your friends and your colleagues, please come and share with like-minded men in a friendly, confidential, prayerful and supportive environment. It has made a huge difference in my life these past 17 years. So, please contact me and let me invite you to a Catholic Men's Fellowship meeting. Mike McNamara at mike@planehelp.net.

Jesus is real, and so, praise God, are we. Every single thing the resurrected Jesus does on earth he does through our bodies. You're fed, you're healed, you're forgiven, you're pronounced clean. You are loved ... Go and do likewise.    ~Sarah Miles, from her book Jesus Freak

Contemporary Paintings on Ignatian Spirituality

Paintings by Holly Schapker

May 16, 2010 - June 18, 2010

The Xavier University Art Gallery (Cohen Center)

"These paintings represent my interpretation of the mission of St. Ignatius Loyola. They incorporate all I know and feel about my life as a Catholic and as an artist. The process of creating this body of work has taken me almost three years in which I have been continuously supported by the Xavier University Community. My research for the exhibition included completing the Spiritual Exercises with Darrell Burns, S.J. and attending the 2008 Ignatian Pilgrimage led by Tom Landy, Director of the Center for Religion, Ethics, and Culture at Holy Cross University."

SVDP REPORT FOR FIRST QUARTER

During the first quarter of 2010, volunteers from St. Vincent DePaul conference here at Bellarmine made 102 home visits providing assistance to a total of 264 people. We helped with rent payments for 33 households in the amount of $6,427.00 (approximately $195 per family) and 23 households with payments to Duke in the amount of $3,910.75 (approximately $170 per family). We gave $1,710.00 Kroger cards to 45 households (approximately $40 per household) and $822.50 Metro tokens to 29 households (approximately $30 per household).

We were able to provide furniture vouchers worth an equivalent of $3,330.00 to the St. Vincent DePaul thrift stores for 36 households and $2,525.00 in vouchers for clothing, household items and bedding for 61 households. Thanks to our bed program we were able to donate 14 twin beds, 38 full beds and 2 cribs to people who were previously without a bed to call their own.

Besides meeting the physical needs of our neighbors, we also gave away 34 adult Bibles and 25 Stories of the Bible for children. As a Catholic organization, SVDP is concerned with the deeper needs and the spiritual well-being of those we serve, always observing a profound respect for their conscience and the faith they believe in.

All this work in the surrounding neighbors of Norwood, Evanston, Walnut Hills and Avondale would not be possible without the generous support of the parish. Please continue to keep this ministry, both the volunteers and our neighbors in need, in your prayers.
