Adult Volunteers
Along with the teens and parish staff, adult volunteers are the life-blood of youth ministry. Volunteers may offer long-term assistance (as with BYG or byg), or they may provide short-term help (such as joining the summer service trip crew, driving for specific events, or helping with Christmas “Giving Tree” deliveries). From time to time, we put out a call for short-term volunteers in the parish bulletin.
Volunteers serve as catechists, facilitators, cooks, clean-up crew, drivers, and “co-workers” alongside teens in the service of others. At the same time, our volunteers are implicitly mentors and role models who listen to our young people, call forth their gifts, and pass on faith (whether in words, actions, or both). We’ve been blessed with adult volunteers of all ages and from walks of life: Xavier students, young professionals, teachers, parents, couples.
If you wish to consider volunteering for this rewarding ministry, contact Sue Antoinette, Director of Youth Ministry, at 513-745-4224 or antoinette@xavier.edu. For longer-term volunteers, we have a mutual interview process where we will discuss your strengths, challenges, talents and gifts you might bring. We will share more information with you about the various possibilities for supporting our youth programs and events. The Cincinnati Archdiocese requires all volunteers with youth to complete child protection training (called “Virtus”) and a background check. There is no cost to the volunteer for either of these requirements.
Recruitment for AMP begins in March for our June trip, recruitment for byg, BYG and Confirmation begins in July and starts in Fall.
